Wilsons Auctions Cherished Registrations - F.A.Q
Cherished Registrations
Frequently Asked Questions...
WHAT PRICES DO THE REGISTRATIONS ACHIEVE? At Auction, some DVA Cherished Registrations sell for just £300. Guide prices for each lot are shown in the catalogue. The figures given are for guidance only and do not represent values or reserves. Numbers can be sold above and below these prices.
By Tender, there is no guide to prices. When gauging your bid to submit, set yourself a maximum price and bid between what you estimate it to be worth and what you can afford.
Ready Registrations show a low budget, fixed price which is inclusive of all additional charges.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO PAY ON TOP OF THE BID PRICE?
In addition to the hammer price (the final bid price taken by the Auctioneer) there is VAT payable at the current rate, plus 10% Buyers Premium
(a minimum commission £25 per plate) + VAT on the Buyers Premium together with the DVA Assignment Fee of £80.00. It is always advisable to set yourself a bidding limit before the auction so you don’t get carried away! A Ready Reckoner will assist you in setting a bidding limit.
UK Mainland Buyers – Further transfer costs may apply (See below question on ‘If I live in the Mainland’.
First of all, look down the right hand column to find the figure nearest the maximum you wish to pay. Having found your figure, trace back to the left hand column to find the maximum hammer price you should bid. Bidding can take place very quickly and it is easy to get caught up in the sale room atmosphere.
Set yourself a limit and stick to it.
Ready registrations, however, show an all inclusive price- inclusive of VAT, the Assignment Fee and Commission.
I WANT TO BUY A REGISTRATION AS A PRESENT, HOW DO I DO THIS?
A Nominee is required to state the name of the person whose vehicle the mark is to be registered on (if different from registered bidder)
You need to complete the Nominee section if:
You are the registered bidder and you wish to assign the registration number to a vehicle registered in someone else’s name or a company name. You need to name them, or the company, as the nominee.
You are registering as a bidder in a company name and you wish to assign the registration to a vehicle registered in your own name. You must name yourself as the nominee.
If you live in the mainland UK and wish to have your number registered in N. Ireland and then transferred to the mainland, you should source a nominee before bidding. Wilsons Auctions can provide a list of companies who belong to the Registration Dealers Association (NI) who will do this for you for a fee.
Nominee details must be provided when you register to bid.
After payment to Wilsons Auctions, nominee details may only be added or changed through the DVA at the cost of £25.00 by completing the section ‘To Add or change Nominee Details’ on the Certificate of Entitlement. For more information about Nominees please call our Cherished Registration Dept on 028 90969007.
I LIVE IN THE UK MAINLAND AND WANT TO BUY A NI REGISTRATION NUMBER, HOW DO I DO THIS?
Northern Ireland numbers have to be first registered in Northern Ireland and then transferred to the mainland- therefore further transfer costs may apply- you will need to inform us of a ‘Nominee’ with the name of the person in Northern Ireland who is going to register the number for you. We have a list of dealers in the ‘Northern Ireland Dealers Association’ who will do this for you for a fee.
HOW DO I ACT AS AN AGENT FOR SOMEONE ELSE?
A letter will be required giving authority for you to bid at auction on the purchaser’s behalf.
At the sale, the Registration Form must be completed with your name, and identification will be required from you.
The Nominee Form (if applicable) should also be completed and handed in at the Registration Desk showing the purchaser as the Person/Company on whose behalf you are bidding.
If your bid is successful you should go to the payment office where the invoice will be issued to show the details of the purchaser. It is important to note that both the Agent and the Purchaser are equally and severally responsible for payment.
HOW DO I BID AT THE AUCTION?
Easily the best method in the relaxed atmosphere. Once you have read the Terms and Conditions in this catalogue complete the Bidder’s Registration Form before arriving at the venue. On arrival go to the Registration Desk and hand in your form. You will be required produce identification at this point. A member of Wilsons staff will issue you with a unique Bidders Number and then you are free to enter the Auction Hall. Your unique number is printed in black so that you can easily signal your bid to the Auctioneer. All you have to do is hold up your Bidder’s Number. You do not have to worry about bids being taken if you scratch your ear or rub your eye!
If your final bid is successful, the Auctioneer will read out loud your Bidder’s Number so you can check that he has the correct number.
WHAT DO I DO IF I AM UNABLE TO ATTEND THE AUCTION?
There are other bidding methods available:
By Telephone
A telephone bid can be arranged. A member of Wilsons staff sittiing in the Auction Hall will bid on you behalf. They will telephone you approximately 5 minutes before your lot is offered for sale. You can hear the Auction taking place and the member of staff will advise you of the bidding and then bid for you at your direction. To arrange a telephone bid please complete the Registration Form and forward to Wilsons at the address shown together with a copy of your identification.
Please not that the deadline for all telephone bids is 4.00pm the Monday before the sale.
By Post
A written bid can be sent to the Auctioneers, and they will bid on your behalf up to your limit. The bidding will not commence at the figure you give. Many people purchase registration numbers for figures well below the limit the put on the form. To arrange a written bid you will need to complete the Registration form and forward to Wilsons at the address shown, together with a copy of your identification.
Please note that a deadline exists for all written bids (4.00pm the Monday before the sale)
Alternatively, you can purchase registrations in our sale by tender or on-line at any time with our Ready Registrations facility.
WHO CAN I ASK FOR ASSISTANCE?
